From “My Dream” to “Dream Come True”

Twenty years ago, I remember Dr. Geena Priscilla Labaco-Macalua—an oncologist by profession—often spending time in the old SU Medical School building, quietly writing in the office. At the time, I didn’t know she was working on a book. One day, she read aloud a part of the story she was writing about a priest who had cancer and shared with me a meaningful lesson about life. That moment stayed with me and left me inspired.

About a year later, she gave me her book, Sharing the Conversation – First Share. Reading it awakened something in me—a desire to write my own book someday. I remember telling myself, “One day, I’ll write a book,” even writing those words in my yellow dream notebook. But as the years passed, life took over, and I didn’t pursue that dream, even though it quietly remained in my heart.

When 2024 arrived, I found myself looking through my dream notebook once again. My eyes stopped on the words “write a book,” and just like that, the desire came rushing back. I felt both overwhelmed and excited. By God’s grace, I finally began my writing journey—something I never imagined would bring me so much joy. What started as a simple “dream” has now become a “dream come true", all in God’s perfect timing.

Writing has taught me that dreams may rest quietly in our hearts, but when the time is right, they can blossom beyond what we imagined.

Note: Dr. Geena Priscilla Macalua-Labaco is an oncologist specializing in the treatment of cancer, but to me, she is a medical doctor who treats my “insecurity cells,” boosts my self-confidence, and is a dear friend.
